Sorah Seong | Organizational Theorist | AI, Web3, Strategy

I'm an academic at heart.

I hold a PhD from INSEAD, where I currently serve as a Visiting Scholar (faculty). Previously, I was a tenure-track professor at the University of Washington, Foster School of Business, and was later named one of Poets & Quants' Top 50 Business School Professors for my research and teaching (interview).

Across everything I do, I keep returning to one question: how do shared meaning, organization, and value get made when no one is in charge? It's the thread that ties it together: how new markets are born, how communities coordinate without central authority, and what happens to creativity and expertise once AI enters the picture.

But I don't just study ideas; I build and translate them. I co-founded SQRT, a wealth management platform for crypto investors; led fashionxDAO, a collective incubating fashion brands through tokenized membership; and served as Entrepreneur in Residence at Madrona Venture Labs (MVL) in Seattle. I continue to advise startups for fun.

I've also spent the last several years bringing this work into the world through 100+ talks across academia, industry, and global conferences, and online course series on Web3 and AI for broader audiences.

These ideas come together in my books: Beyond AI: The Human Strategy (2025); the national bestseller NFT Revolution (2021, 100K+ copies, translated into Mandarin, Cantonese, and Vietnamese); and Time I Couldn't Miss (2008), written during my time at Harvard.

What I believe in 🫰🏻

"We owe an obligation of stewardship to our ideas. They are struggling to be given life, to achieve currency in the world, to create real value for people who can build and run a better society. Only we can do that."
